Listen to Audible on any MP3 player

Small, cheap MP3 players are great for audiobooks: huge battery life, no notifications, perfect for walks, the gym or kids. Most of them can't play Audible's formats. Convert your books to MP3 with AudiblePort and they'll play on anything.

How to do it

  1. 1

    Convert to MP3

In AudiblePort, pick your books and convert them to MP3.

  2. 2

    Split by chapter

Enable chapter splitting for easy navigation on simple players.

  3. 3

    Copy to your player

Drag each book's folder onto the device and start listening.

Works with basically everything

MP3 is universally supported, so once your books are converted you can use whatever device you like.

  • SanDisk Clip and other clip players
  • Sony Walkman
  • Car stereos with USB or SD slots
  • Old iPods, e-readers with audio, kids' players

Best settings for MP3 players

Choose MP3 and turn on split by chapter: each chapter becomes a track, which makes skipping and resuming much easier on simple players. 64 kbps keeps files small and still sounds clear for speech; use 128 kbps if storage isn't a concern.

Copying the files

Connect the player to your computer over USB, open it like a USB drive and copy each book's folder into its Audiobooks (or Music) folder. Numbered chapter files keep everything in order.

Frequently asked questions

My player doesn't show the files in order.

Use the chapter split option: files are numbered so they sort correctly on players that order by file name.

How many books fit on a 16 GB player?

At 64 kbps an hour of audio is about 29 MB, so roughly 550 hours — dozens of books.

Does my car stereo play M4B?

Most don't. Use MP3 for car stereos and basic players.
